Summer School 2021 UPDATE

Take Me To The World

The Gatehouse Theatre team are thrilled to announce that we are planning Summer School 2021. This is exciting for all the team, as it will be the first Gatehouse-produced show in over 12 months! This year’s Summer School has been specially created for the Gatehouse and will explore the impact lockdown has had on teenage lives.

‘Take Me To The World’ is a new ensemble musical revue that will tell the story of a group of teenagers and their experiences of life during lockdown. Worrying about becoming a young adult, the fears and joys of being a teenager is thrown into a new challenge when lockdown forces them to live life and their most important coming of age moments through a laptop screen. The show will feature songs by Stephen Sondheim and Jason Robert Brown, such as “What It Means To Be A Friend” (13), “No One Is Alone” (Into The Woods), “Broadway Baby” (Follies), “Brand New You” (13), “Side By Side” (Company), “Climbing Uphill” (The Last 5 Years), “A New World” (Songs From A New World), “Old Friends” (Merrily We Roll Along) “Not While I’m Around” (Sweeney Todd) and “Take Me To The World” (Evening Primrose) plus others. The songs tell the individual stories of a group of teenagers who have been suffering with various issues such as missing friends, making banana cake with parents, zoom problems, online schooling, and keeping to rules. Each song focuses on another student and the quirky, touching and funny moments that have happened during being at home. It will be a great and unique first production back to open the theatre and showcase what amazing talent we have in Stafford.

The Summer School will run from August 9th to August 20th with performances on the final week. Spaces will be limited due to current restrictions, and the scale of production will be reduced in size but not ambition. We can’t wait to start back and welcome the youth of Stafford home to their Theatre to create and make memories once again!

Audition day for the Summer School will be Sunday July 11th, and registrations are now open. Theatre experience is not essential, just a passion and enthusiasm for performing! Please read the following information carefully and complete the online registration here (ages 10-14) or here (ages 15-21). Once registered, you will be emailed with a application form to fill in and bring on audition day.

Stafford Gatehouse Theatre Summer School

Every year Stafford Gatehouse Theatre runs a Summer School programme, where young people can gain experience rehearsing and performing in a musical theatre production, with a professional creative team and crew.

The Summer School’s previous production of ‘The Addams Family’ was a huge success and it’s a wonderful opportunity for young people to get involved with a professional production. If your child is interested in theatre, but unable to attend the Summer School, our Gatehouse Youth Theatre shows are a wonderful introduction to what we do here at the Gatehouse – or you may wish to consider signing your child up to join the Youth Theatre programme, which runs during term time at the Gatehouse.
